GOD'S ATTRIBUTES AND NAMES - (F's)

by Hallie Gipson

The more I progress through the alphabet in an effort to focus on God’s attributes and names, I am struck once again with my finite character. All human effort to describe God falls far short of His infinite character! Our minds can never grasp the ALL of God, but what a treasure we miss if we don’t plumb the depths of God’s Word to know Him better! The more we search God out, the more we find --- and the more we find, the more we love Him, and the more precious He becomes.

I love how Colossians 3 urges us to “keep seeking the things above”. Verses 1-3 tell us “Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on the earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

So take a deep breath as we dive in to the depths!

FATHER

Isaiah 9:6  “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 63:16 “. . . You, O Lord, are our Father, Our Redeemer from of old is Your name.”

Matthew 6:6, 9  “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. . . . Pray, then, in this way: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.”

1 Corinthians 8:6  “yet for us, there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.”

Galatians 1:3-5  “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen.”

Ephesians 4:5-6   “one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.”

Philippians 4:20   “Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”

FAITHFUL

Deuteronomy 7:9   “Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments.”

Deuteronomy 32:3-4   “For I proclaim the name of the Lord; Ascribe greatness to our God! The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, Righteous and upright is He.”

Psalm 33:4   “For the word of the Lord is upright, And all His work is done in faithfulness.”

1 Corinthians 1:9   “God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

1 Peter 4:19   “Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.”

1 John 1:9   “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Revelation 19:11   “And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.”

FORTRESS

2 Samuel 22:33   “God is my strong fortress; And He sets the blameless in His way.”

Psalm 18:2   “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 59:16-17   “But I will sing of Your strength, in the morning I will sing of Your love; for You are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. O my Strength, I sing praise to You; You, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.”

Psalm 71:3   “Be to me a rock of habitation to which I may continually come; You have given commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress.”

FORGIVES

Psalm 103:2-4   “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits --- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.”
Micah 7:18   “Who is a God like You, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance?”

1 John 1:9   “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

FRIEND

Luke 5:20   “When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

John 15:13-15   “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends . . .”

FOREVER

Psalm 29:10   “The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as King forever.”

Psalm 118:1   “Give thanks to the lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”

Hebrews 7:24-25   “but Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.”

Hebrews 13:8   “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

1 Peter 1:25   “But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

Father, I praise You because “The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” (Psalm 119:160)  I can depend on Your Holy Word to speak the truth about Who You are and I can stand firm in the knowledge that You Reign Eternal!

MORNING PRAISE

by Hallie Gipson

"You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy."   Psalm 65:86

Blessed are You, God, for You have not turned away when your children pray and You continue to grace us with Your lovingkindness.

You truly make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy!

Everything You have created shows forth Your glory. Your creation is evidence of Your majesty and proof that You exist. You are Sovereign. There is none like You.

Thank You that You did not withhold Yourself from us! That You were pleased to reveal Your Son to us, Your children, is beyond our comprehension.

Nothing we can ever possess will compare to the promise we have in Christ Jesus!

SOFT WORDS

BY Shirley Wiggins

A sleepless night,
a troubled mind, a sad, sorrowing heart filled with questions tinged with fear.

The uncertainties of the many disappointments in life…
When our personal lives are touched by the fearful feelings of any kind of turmoil how we begin to think about those things will determine whether we begin to feed our faith or our fear.

Our negative feelings will lead us down a path of futility that goes nearer and nearer to failure where doubts get crowded closely by despair.
Despair shows up when we think we are trying as hard as we can, and it isn’t working, so we feel like giving up, sitting down, and staying still and quiet.

But then the crushing weight of guilt begins to block the Sunlight of the Love of God, who never gives up on us.
Never?  No, never.  God desires that we would seek to know Him in truth.

Truth is what we must remember when we are troubled by the disappointments of life which are certain to come to all of us at some point in time.  When we let our thoughts run with our feelings, we can be quickly led into areas of untruth.
Things said to us can wound us when no harm was meant.  Even things said intentionally to injure us can be responded to with soft answers filled with gentle words.

S oothing, sincere
O nly

F aithful, fact-filled
T houghtful  thoughts!

The thoughts in my mind and the words in my mouth seem to work in tandem.  What I think about tends to come out of my mouth in words.

“A soft and gentle and thoughtful answer turns away wrath,
But harsh and painful and careless words stir up anger.”  -Proverbs 15:1 Amp. Bible.

Harsh, painful, and careless words seem to guarantee some stirred up anger will be coming into the day.
Oh, that I might think soft and gentle thoughts, that only thoughtful words would come out of my mouth!

Soothing, faithful thoughts will be based in truth’s knowledge, not on feelings.
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.  Proverbs 15:2 ESV.

A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.”   “A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart, the spirit is crushed.  The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.  Proverbs 15:4, 13-14 ESV.
The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.  The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.”  Proverbs 15:28-29 ESV.

But Prayer…. Acts 12:5  So Peter was kept in prison but earnest prayer for him was made to God by the church.   A good reminder of the power of earnest prayer when prayed to God, the Lord, who hears the prayer of the righteous.
I am reminded that I have no righteousness of my own, but God gives to His children His own righteousness in His Son, Jesus Christ, who became righteousness for us:  believers  who’ve put our faith and trust in Him (Jesus).

God desires a breakthrough to absolute victory for us!
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of Him.  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey His commandments.  For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments.   And His commandments are not burdensome.  For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world.   And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.  Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?   1 John 5:1-5 ESV.

I keep praying and praying like I’m looking for a magical fix to my problems, but God says, “NO!”  That is not how I work, that is not My will for you!  Failure is not your future, Daughter! (Or son!)
Your destiny, my dearly beloved child, is written in my Word, it is sublimely divine for I know the plans I have for you, here in this world now, and to give you a Future with Me forever!  You are My child, and I love you perfectly and completely right now, even though you are not right now perfect and complete in your holiness- -neither in your character nor conduct.  But I am not finished.  You are not finished, we are not finished.  Read My Word!  Believe it and live like you believe it!

Now, from the top…
Life is about Love, Love is about Relationship – Relationship is about Redemption – Redemption is about Salvation – Salvation is about Righteousness – Righteousness is about Sanctification – Sanctification is about Transformation….. And Transformation is about Justification, and Justification is about Salvation, and Salvation is about Righteousness:

Not your righteousness, Daughter, (son,)  but Mine!  The righteousness of God which comes from God --- not from the Law, nor from the flesh – but which comes from God!  (See the book of Galatians in the New Testament of the Holy Bible.)
I knew that-----didn’t I???  Where is my Bible?  Oh, here it is …

Now from the Top:
Life is about Love!  Love is God!  God is Love and God is Life, and He thinks good thoughts toward me and makes good plans for my Future, and the Future of my loved ones!

And you, and yours, dear friend.  God has good plans for you!
Where is your  Bible??!
